Dose Coffee is a locally-owned cafe that has expanded to three brick and mortar locations around Music City since first opening on Murphy Road in 2009. Dose serves a rotating selection of Counter Culture Coffee year round and has an excellent, accessible menu full of breakfast and brunch classics as well as a number of vegan options.

2. Ugly Mugs
Neighborhood: East Nashville

Ugly Mugs is a locally-owned coffee shop in East Nashville that serves gourmet coffee, baked goods, breakfast and lunch. Ugly Mugs has a nice courtyard it shares with a few other businesses in the same complex that makes for a great spot to sit outside with a coffee and enjoy a beautiful day.

3. Barista Parlor
Neighborhood: East Nashville, The Gulch, Germantown, Hillsboro Village

Barista Parlor is a popular, independent coffee shop now with five locations in Nashville that serves coffee, espresso, tea and simple food in stylish, contemporary settings. Barista Parlor's style is influenced by founder Andy Mumma’s fascination with motorcycles and race cars. Their first location opened in East Nashville in 2012.

4. Flora + Fauna
Neighborhood: East Nashville

Flora + Fauna is a locally owned coffee shop that also has a great menu of colorful breakfast staples, salads, soups and sandwiches. The name, which means all plant and animal life, began with the shared dream of four local coffee professionals who first met in 2013. The shop opened in 2020 and delivers with a selection of quality roasted coffee and seasonal, local ingredients.

5. Bongo Java
Neighborhood: East Nashville, Midtown

Bongo Java's location next to Belmont University is Nashville's true coffee OG open in Music City since 1993. This location is also known for the Nun Bun, a cinnamon roll made in September of 1996 that looked remarkably like Mother Teresa.

6. Frothy Monkey
Neighborhood: East Nashville, Downtown, 12 South, The Nations, Franklin

Frothy Monkey, now with five locations in Nashville, is a neighborhood-focused coffee shop with an all-day menu full of tasty and locally sourced dishes and drinks. A popular spot with locals and tourists in the know, Frothy’s OG 12 South location opened in 2004 right before the neighborhood exploded. Frothy Monkey is always a solid choice for coffee in Nashville and also has good breakfast and brunch

7. Crema
Neighborhood: Downtown, Brentwood, East Nashville

Crema, the product of husband and wife team Rachel and Ben Lehman, is a local favorite coffee shop and independent roastery in Nashville opening there first location in SoBro in 2008. Crema, now with three locations in Nashville, is proudly a carbon neutral, zero waste coffee roaster. Each Crema cafe features their trademark minimal design with elegant wood furniture and large front facing windows.

8. Cafe Intermezzo
Neighborhood: Downtown

Café Intermezzo, with it’s trademark European ambience and Mediterranean inspired menu, is one of our favorite options for any meal downtown. Intermezzo specializes in craft espresso and coffee as well as a vast assortment of wonderful cakes and pastries. The cafe is warm and spacious but is really more in the style of restaurant that serves a great cup-a-joe then a sit down and work on your laptop stlye coffee shop.

9. Matryoshka Coffee
Neighborhood: South Nashville

Matryoshka Coffee is a charming and colorful, small coffee shop opened in 2021 in South Nashville. The cafe's design is heavily influenced by the book Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee.

10. Americano Lounge
Neighborhood: WeHo

Americano Lounge is a Nashville coffee shop that serves craft coffee, small bites and specialty cocktails in a cool rustic interior with many different seating options. Americano Lounge is open Wednesday through Saturday till midnight, slowly transforming itself from coffee shop to bar as the day grows older.

11. Humphreys Street Coffee Shop
Neighborhood: WeHo

Humphrey's Street Coffee is a lovely neighborhood cafe set in a chic, vintage home with 100% of its profits benefitting local youth programs. When a local teen apply's for a job at the shop they are given the opportunity to learn a highly skilled craft, spend time with mentors, make hand-crafted goods and earn grants and scholarships to help them with their education.

12. 8th & Roast
Neighborhood: Sylvan Park, Midtown, 8th Ave.

8th & Roast is a charming, locally-owned coffee shop with four locations in Nashville including one at BNA. 8th & Roast's original location on 8th Avenue, where they got their name, is located in an old, demly-lit brick building with most of the light in the cafe coming from a large front-facing window. Their cafe on Charlotte Ave is more spacious and features lots of natural light from south and west facing floor to ceiling windows.

13. Fido
Neighborhood: Hillsboro Village

Open since 1996, Fido is a mainstay local business in the Hillsboro Village neighborhood. While Fido technically is a “coffee shop” it really is a do-it-all kind of place that serves a great menu of food, beer and wine too. Fido is known for being one of the places in Nashville Taylor Swift frequented before she was famous.
